About Okija- okijalism

Okija is a city in Ihiala L.G.A, Anambra State Nigeria. Okija, is the biggest town in Ihiala Local Government Area and one of the biggest in Igboland. in Okija, there is a river called ORASI- RIVER which flows to the Atlantic and join another OKPOSI river.

It is located in the south of the commercial town of Onitsha by about 24 Kilometers and about 17 Kilometers from the industrial town of Nnewi.

Okija is within the Ihiala Local Government area in Onitsha South Senatorial district. It is traditionally, the spiritual head of the towns in the local government area including Ihembosi, thus has the right of key privileges such as the breaking of kola nut. Okija is bordered in the northern part by Ozubulu/Ihembosi, in the south by Ihiala, in the east by Ukpo and Azia and in the west by Ogbakuba.

Okija town consists of 34 villages under 3 major groupings in the order of seniority as follows.

Okija shrine
Ogwugwakpu is the most local popular shrine in the city located in Ubahu and Ogwugwu-mmiri located in Umuegueri in Umuohi. this is a validity alleged settlement shrine where some people go and make a formal judgement on a disputed matter to the gods.
Okija is a town in Anambra State in the South East of Nigeria.

UBAHU – ABU UBAHU:

                Ubahu:- Umuakpolom, Umuezedam,Umudalaegwu,

                               Umuapani, Ugwucheleku and Ubahuagbugba.

                Umuohi:-Ezieke, Umudioka and Isifulu.

                Umuhu :-Umuhu and Ubahuezike.



UHUOBO- NA – UHUOWELLE:

         Umuatuegwu:-Umuatuegwu, Ohukabia and Uhudim.

                Umuofo:- Uhungwu,Umuezewulum and Ndeakabo.

            Uhuowelle:-Umuogu, Oghalegbu and Umuzu.



IHITE-ABU-IHITE:

           Ubahueze:- umuezenna, Umudibia, Ubahualam, Uhuokwe and

                              Ubahuogwugwu.

                  Isieke:-Aka, Ezengu/Ubahudara, Umunnaka,Ubahumorie

                              and Umuduru.

       Ubahumonum;- Umuezeagwute, Umuezeana,Umuagu and

                                     Umuezeona.

Ulasi River traversed many parts of Okija.
Okija or the thirty mentioned Villages loosely divided into three;
1. Ubahu Abu Ubahu: This conjure Ubahu, Umuohi (Umunhi), ubahuezike and umuhu
2. Uhuobo and Uhuowere: This consists of Uhuobo, Ohukabia and Uhuowere.
3. Ihite abu Ihite: This contains Ubahummonu, Ubahudara, Isieke and Ihite.
Traditionally or a few years a gone, Okija city had no king or didn’t respect and regard someone because the chief of the thirty villages in Okija. In those years, sturdy individuals assumed leadership of various villages and quarters.
Now Okija has its own city council. In recent years, His Royal Highness, Chief R. Oraelosi, Ezegedegwum 111 of Okija. Therefore the governance currently rests on the Igwe and also the native councilors still at the Okparas. People who facilitate within the regime of the city embrace the cohort (the age group) and Igwe in council.
